Virtual Boy
Platform
Universally considered the best and most indispensable game on the Virtual Boy. Features exceptional level design with unique mechanics like jumping into the background, as tight as a pair of leather pants and as solid as a Christmas cake. Polished visuals and audio enhance the platforming experience. Despite being short (2-3 hours), it represents the system's flagship title and the game every Virtual Boy owner wanted.

Virtual Boy
Sports
Boxing
Makes the best use of the Virtual Boy's hardware and unique controller. Dual D-Pads on each side mirror the boxing experience, letting you block with each hand and punch in combination with triggers. Essentially 3D Punch-Out!! with robots, this first-person fighter achieves what Gunpei Yokoi envisioned for the system. While the experience is short-lived, the gameplay mechanics are genuinely fun and well-executed.

Virtual Boy
Adventure
An unusual and engaging title where players guide three jack characters through mazes under time pressure. Technically the first Megami Tensei game released outside Japan, making it historically significant. Features multiple characters and two difficulty settings for extended playtime. One of the rarest Virtual Boy games in existence. Gameplay becomes more engaging once players master the mechanics.

Virtual Boy
Puzzle
A challenging three-dimensional reimagining of the classic Tetris formula. The final officially released game for the Virtual Boy (March 22, 1996), making it a landmark release. While more challenging than 2D versions, it effectively demonstrates the console's 3D capabilities applied to puzzle gameplay. Appeals to Tetris fans seeking a fresh take on the formula.

Virtual Boy
Sports
A variation on 3D Pong that makes exceptional use of the Virtual Boy's 3D effect with varied stage layouts. Features wonderful controls, effective audio, and an options menu that extends gameplay. Provides an enjoyable experience demonstrating how sports can be reimagined for stereoscopic 3D.

Virtual Boy
Simulation
Essentially the Star Fox of the Virtual Boy—a wireframe 3D shooter with neat level design and plenty of action. Tight controls and clever use of the 3D effect, though the wireframe style can make it difficult to distinguish holes from walls. The main limitation is only 6 levels that each take about 5 minutes to complete, but it's a solid first-person shooting experience that takes full advantage of the console's capabilities.

Virtual Boy
Sports
Tennis
The first Mario Tennis game, which established mechanics that influenced all future iterations. Solid gameplay fundamentals with good music and graphics. The 3D effect of the court is particularly impressive. While not revolutionary, it serves as a solid introductory title for the system that demonstrates the Virtual Boy's ability to handle sports simulation with the 3D effect enhancing court perception.

Virtual Boy
Puzzle
Fall
A quality Bomberman-themed puzzle game (not a direct Bomberman game). Probably not the Bomberman game most players wanted, but nonetheless a good one with varied opponents and multiple difficulty levels that maintain interest. Features excellent music and great visuals. While it could benefit from extra modes and suffers from the lack of a link cable for multiplayer, it's a fine puzzle game overall.

Virtual Boy
Pinball
One of the best pinball game implementations on any Nintendo console. Four different and well-done pinball tables with simple but engaging gameplay and fun objectives. Features impressive 3D depth effects that enhance the pinball experience. Includes a Metroid Easter egg where you can control Samus's ship, adding an extra layer of interest for Nintendo fans.

Virtual Boy
Shoot'em Up
Vertical
The Virtual Boy's only 2D scrolling shooter. You control a spaceship destroying malfunctioning supercomputers to save humanity. The unique gimmick is moving to lower elevations, with hazards and enemies appearing on both planes. Thanks to the Virtual Boy's 3D display, this elevation mechanic breathes new life into the traditional scrolling shooter formula. Features a traditional power-up system, though stage design is not particularly creative.

Virtual Boy
Platform
A 3D reimagining of the original Mario Bros. arcade game (not to be confused with Super Mario Bros.). Takes steps back to explore the franchise's history, adapting classic arcade gameplay with the Virtual Boy's 3D capabilities. The 3D effect enhances the arcade action and adds new depth to the familiar formula.

Virtual Boy
FPS
Shooter
Ahead of its time, combining FPS and survival horror elements. Based on H.P. Lovecraft's works, this Japan-exclusive game can be surprisingly startling despite its red and black color palette. Includes traditional survival horror elements like ammunition management and creepy enemy encounters. A shame it wasn't localized for North American audiences, as it represents one of the most unique entries in the Virtual Boy library.

Virtual Boy
Sports
Bowling
One of the few sports games on the Virtual Boy and the best bowling title on the system. Control either Nester or his sister Hester in realistic matches. Solid mechanics and charming animations, though nothing particularly fancy. While the gameplay is straightforward, it demonstrates that arcade bowling can work well with the Virtual Boy's 3D effects.

Virtual Boy
Puzzle
A block-stacking puzzle game that provides a solid but unremarkable Tetris experience. While competent, it doesn't offer significant innovation over traditional Tetris to justify extended play, though it serves as a functional puzzle option for Virtual Boy owners.
Mario's Bomb
Virtual Boy
Puzzle game that integrates Mario theme elements. Provides acceptable puzzle gameplay without standout features. Some shade of acceptable gameplay but somewhat insubstantial overall.
Virtual Boy
Compilation
Shoot'em Up
Shooter
Space Invaders Like
Compilation featuring original Space Invaders games plus 3D remakes. The 3D versions add a fresh perspective to the classic arcade formula, with great 3D effects that enhance the nostalgia. A solid compilation for those seeking classic arcade action reimagined for the Virtual Boy.

Virtual Boy
Puzzle
One of the lower-tier titles on the system. While it attempts to offer educational puzzle gameplay, it falls short in overall execution and engagement. Limited appeal for modern players.

Virtual Boy
Sports
Bowling
While there were multiple bowling titles for the Virtual Boy, this entry ranks lower than Nester's Funky Bowling. Gameplay is less polished and the presentation lacks charm, though the mechanics are functional.

Virtual Boy
Sports
Baseball
A game only its mother could love, Virtual League Baseball can't make up for lacklustre visuals with decent gameplay. Limited appeal and poor execution of baseball simulation make it one of the weaker sports titles on the system. Sits near the bottom of most rankings.
Virtual Boy
Shooter
Vehicle, TPV
Frequently criticized as an ugly, depressingly dull excuse for a game. Poor execution of an adaptation based on the movie. Limited gameplay appeal and uninspired design make it rank among the system's weakest titles.
